Logo Contest - Extended

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 20, 2009, 10:56 PM
*Miss-Avalon and *darkmatterzone present a logo contest for:

Buddha's Garage

Avalon and Buddha have recently opened an auto repair business in Austin, Texas. They need a logo for their business and are giving their fellow deviants an opportunity to design it. The designs will be judged by Buddha, Avalon, and myself. The top three designs will be featured in the Journals of both *Miss-Avalon and *darkmatterzone.

Avalon by *
darkmatterzone

More images of the amazing Avalon are in my collection.

The winning design will receive:

1. A photo of your design if a sign is made of it for the business
2. A T-Shirt of your design (when available)
3. A printed photo of Avalon wearing your design, by *darkmatterzone

Here are the rules:

1. Design must be your original line-art (no photos or manips)
2. To give artists the year-end holidays to work on the logo, the deadline for submission has been extended to Sunday, January 3, 2010.
3. Entry is agreement to transfer in writing, all Copyright and Trademark rights, to Buddha's Garage - if you are the winner.
4. Entry should not make reference to The Buddha or Buddhism. It's just a nickname.
5. Submit a link (either on deviantART or your own hosting page) using a Note to *darkmatterzone or through this Journal.

Suggestions:

Your design should be scalable - it should be legible whether it is on a business card, T-Shirt, or Sign.

Your design will probably work better if it fits in a square or 2x3 rectangle.

A minimum of colors is probably best, for economy of creating a sign or T-shirts.

Your design should include the words "Buddha's Garage". You may specify a font for other text which my be added to your design, such as information on a business card. You may submit example text.

GOOD LUCK!

deviantART: Working for you!

Fri Jul 31, 2009, 9:01 PM
I don't get it: someone actually complains about this kind of stuff? All digital photography goes through some sort of digital processing. I wonder at what point while pushing the color curve is the tipping point for a photo to transition to graphics. All photography has some degree of abstraction. It seems like the DA admins should be spending their time chasing after kiddie porn or other questionable content! Sigh!

Misplaced Deviation: Resolved

o 14 hours, 31 minutes ago – relocated a deviation (Positive Energy by =darkmatterzone) from photography/people/nude to photography/darkroom/digidarkroom. Reason: Moved in response to case #702326
* Comment: A reviewing member of staff has determined this deviation was improperly placed. The reviewing staff member has moved the deviation to what was considered to be a more appropriate gallery.

P.S.: My model, Holly, is back on DA. Her new ID is: *DarkAngelHolly. Go make her feel special again!

Tweet-ku. A Haiku Contest.

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 29, 2009, 9:16 PM
Tweet-ku. Compose a Haiku-like poem inspired by one of =darkmatterzone's images.

All entries must be sent using Twitter to @darkmatterzone. Submissions through deviantART don't count - they must go through Twitter!

Here are the rules of the contest.

1. The poem must be your original work and must be in English.
2. Use one of =darkmatterzone's photos as an inspiration.
3. Create a poem of no more than 114 characters. You can use a "/" to indicate a new line.
4. There are no other traditional Haiku rules. You may use as many syllables or lines as you want, up to 114 characters.
5. Submit the poem using your cell phone or by going to Twitter.com
6. Begin your tweet with @darkmatterzone followed by a space, then put the Thumb number of the photo that inspired you. You can find the Thumb number next to the Artist's comments below an image on deviantART. Only use the numeric part of the Thumb tag. Follow the Thumb number with another blank, and then the poem. For example, here is how Basho would tweet (an interesting idea...) his classic Haiku:

@darkmatterzone 123456789 the first cold shower/even the monkey seems to want/a little coat of straw

7. I reserve the right to remove hostile tweets, or those that do not meet deviantART's Terms of Service.
8. By submitting a poem, you grant =darkmatterzone usage rights to publish said poem on deviantART or in print, attributed to you, without any further claims.
9. Prize? Creating art is it's own reward. But if I like your poem or if it is popular, when I self-publish a book of my photography, I'll include your poem with the image, and offer the book "at cost" to the poet.

Happy composing...

Here we go again...

Mon Apr 13, 2009, 9:23 AM
About two months ago, I received a record 16 Policy Violation notices, for Mature Content Tag Needed. I posted a journal, and a heated discussion ensued. It turned out that deviantART had been using my deviations for the training of new staff members and admins, some of whom had become overzealous in the interpretation of deviantART policy. The result, was that deviantART apologized profusely, and stopped the further issuance of violations. Acting on good faith, I deleted my Journal entry to avoid further embarrassment to all concerned.

Well, today, I've received three new Policy Violations for the same offense. Here is an example of one of the deviations for which a violation notice was received:

While the image is alluring, it is no more revealing than what you can find in a perfume advertisement in many mainstream fashion magazines. That deviation has been on DA for over two years, has been favorited over 500 times, and has been viewed over 24,000 times, with no complaints - until now!!! Now this image has the same protections provided for images of fully exposed genitalia - of which there are numerous examples all over DA.

Recently, several models have said they do not wish to work with me, or have not wanted their portraits posted on DA for fear of being labeled as "mature content", which is the same as porn in some communities.

What a shame.
